Codetch 0.3.5 Release
The latest version, Codetch 0.3.5 is out. You can also now check out some screenshots ›
Some of the new features:
- Line and column number in status bar
- Current line number and column position of the cursor will be displayed in the status bar.
- Go to line feature
- Enter a line number and it will be selected and scrolled to.
- Find and replace
- Find, find all, replace, and replace all with options to match case and use Regular Expressions, or to search in all opened documents, or just the selected text. The “search in” options only pertain to Find All and Replace All, at the moment.
- Search result display panel
- After performing a Find All or Raplace All, the matched results will be displayed in this panel. Double clicking on a result will highlite and scroll to the match in the code editor.
- Smart code tabbing
- When you hit RETURN, the new line will be on the same tab level as the previous line. You can also highlite multiple lines and hit TAB to increase every selected line’s indent at once.
- Customizable templates and template directory
- The template directory is now fully customizable. Create your own directories and template files and organize them as you like. The new file dialog also has a button to edit the selected template/default file for direct editing. There is also an option to save a file as a template, which will start the file picker directory in your template directory. You can find the template directory in your profile directory for Firefox/Thunderbird/Mozilla, or whatever you have Codetch installed on. It is in the codetch/configuration directory there.
- Switch view mode with tabs
- Switching the view mode is now easier with tabs corresponding to each view located beneath the editor.
- Hide sidebar/insert/results panels
- Make your work area cleaner by hiding panels you don’t need.
That’s all for this release. I’m working on code snippets and some other things for the next one.

Great work so far. I think this is a wonderful Firefox extension/application. I have one question. When can we expect syntax highlighting?
September 15th, 2005 at 10:29 pm
Just saw this and thought I’ld try it.
But, when I try to open an existing file, or make a new one I get an error in the results that says “Codetch has no properties.”
Any suggestions?

This is the second time I have encounted this problem, after installing this version 0.3.5, was unable to open anything from the explorer window? This also happened when I installed version 0.3.4. After closing the program and then re-opening it, the explorer window allowed me the double-click and open a file in the Insert pane.

Great Dev tool!
I am using it almost exclusively for my XHMTL/PHP coding along side HTML Validator (Tidy) for Firefox!
Feature suggestion if I may: maybe make us codetch users define custom tool bar ‘buttons’ for easy code snippets and/or html elements (ie: I would really like to have h4 along side h3, h2, h1 in the ‘insert>paragraph’ toolbar.
Overall, codetch is hitting the DEV sweet spot for me! Thanks for all your great work!

I definitely want to implement syntax highlighting in the future, but I am still trying to find out the best possible way to do it. I should have some type of toolbar customization by the next version though. Oh, and thanks KrulL, glad you like it :D.

For code hightlighting you may want to look at NVU…
I am going to look into this extension..
I would love an editor based on xul..
Does this work with Xulrunner ??

Hi there Zach,
I noticed in this release of codetch that you got a context menu in ‘tools>codetch’. In there there’s two option on how to launch codetch.
Suggestion: any way we can have a button to launch codetch in a tab as well? or at least a preference where you’d like to launch codetch whether inline as tab in firefox or as a separate floating codetch.
Just adding my 2 ruppies to this great extension!
Keep up the great work

Great extension, thanks for creating it.
Any chance on updating this extension so that it is compatible with the latest FX 1.5 Beta Build? I know that if I want it to work with the latest version, all I have to do is bump the “MaxVersion” in the “install.rdf” file. I’ve done that and it works but not everyone knows how to do that, So maybe an update would be nice for those folks. One think I noticed though, when installed on FX 1.5 Beta, there is big spaces between the text above and below. Any chance on fixing that?

FF1.0.7, Codetch 0.3.5, XP SP2 frequently patched…
First open always fails.
Error: uncaught exception: [Exception… “Component returned failure code: 0×8000ffff (NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED) [nsIPrefBranch.getCharPref]” nsresult: “0×8000ffff (NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED)” location: “JS frame :: chrome://codetch/content/codetch.js :: startApp :: line 56″ data: no]
followed by: Error: codetch has no properties
Close the tool, open again in same FF process, often succeeds.
When it works, I like it very much. Hope you can diagnose the problem!

Are you there?
Do you mind to post some more information about this ?

First of all, thanks for what’s turning out to be a fine editor.
Regarding the following,
“Hide sidebar/insert/results panels
Make your work area cleaner by hiding panels you don’t need.”
Ok, and how does one bring these back once they’ve (insert & results) disappeared?
Collapsible sub-contextuals rather than hiding ones are preferable.
Also, getting back the the File Toolbar from hiding is almost imposible.
I’ve looked throughout the menus and do not see a configuration options menu for the insert and results toolbar. If appreciate it if someone could be kind enough to tell me how to bring these back. Thank you.
Chascon
PS-Yes, I’ve googled and looked the the practically non/existent wiki manual.

Hey Chascon,
To bring them back go to the View menu (next to the Tools menu at the top). You’ll see Sidebar, Results, Insert, and a sub menu for showing/higing toolbars. If the menuitem has a check mark then it’s visible, so click it to toggle the panel visible/hidden.
If you want to collapse a panel instead of hiding it, just click on the title bar of the panel (e.g “Results”) and it will collapse the area so just the title is visible. That’s usually what I do.
Hope that helps.

Nope. View shows just the titles of the tabs. If only it were that simple.
Running Codetch 0.4.0
Flock 1.1.1
OS X

Ah, must be some issue with Javascript with Codetch on Flock. Try the newest version of Codetch: http://codetch.com/download/codetch-0.4.1pre.xpi . Was fine for me on Flock 1.1.2 using Ubuntu.
Curious though, did the error console show any errors when you open Codetch?
April 25th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
Yeah, http://codetch.com/download/codetch-0.4.1pre.xpi36 seems to work. Thanks
Sorry, I don’t recall any errors, but I can’t say that I checked while I had the older version installed.
I also noticed that the browser menu is (barely) visible on the bottom. Anyone else having this odd glitch?
